Bear Creek Marina is located on Lake James in the little community of Nebo near Marion, North Carolina. Morganton is a city that is nearby, a part of Burke County and the two counties share Lake James, dividing the lake almost equally. Commanding national recognition as one of America's best small cities is nearby Asheville, North Carolina only thirty to forty minutes west of Lake James. Charlotte is the largest nearby metropolitan area about 90 minutes east of the Marina and hosts an international airport.
